Project Area- 3000 sq.ft.
As you enter Demand Farm’s office, you are likely to witness the quote “beauty lies in simplicity” come to life. Nestled at the heart of Pune’s commercial hub- Kalyani Nagar, this workplace is about all things basic yet dynamic. Standing at the entrance beside the security desk, your eye meets the other end of the office suggesting that the company values transparency in work and in design. You can view large arch-shaped windows on the exterior wall which allow sunlight indoors bathing the office in golden natural light. A step ahead into the office, you can spot the visitor meeting rooms, strategically positioned near the entrance for conducting impromptu walk-in meetings.
Going further, you are welcomed in an expansive waiting lobby furnished with comfortable couches and chairs. The lobby provides an unobstructed view of the entire office which is essentially planned as an open floor layout. A 12-seater conference room is located adjacent to the lobby equipped with audio-visual aids. A glass partition covered in horizontal strips of blue and orange-coloured films separates the lobby from the conference room. These colours are picked from the colours of the logo which are reflected in the design through various forms. The utility area inclusive of the canteen, pantry, and washrooms is also located closer to the lobby thereby clustering all people-centric activities and services together.
The workspaces are designed in a manner to promote fluidity in design and flexibility of movement. The spaces were categorically classified into five macro zones namely Strategy Incubation (for team meetings), Idea Lab (for conferences), Interaction (for informal gatherings), Eateries (for canteen), and Working Area (for cubicles and desks). The spaces within these zones were further segregated department-wise. The work desks are designed in a zigzag fashion to break the stereotypical norm of linear workdesk arrangement. The desks are so arranged to form a semi-circular huddle, creating a space in the centre for collaborative working. The work desks are paired with other seating layouts such as individual work pods, high-rise tables and chairs to let employees work comfortably.
The office design encourages employee interaction by allowing a complete view of the office while standing in front of their desk. This is achieved by designing a half-height partition (4 feet high) which separates the work desks while providing visual access to the rest of the office. The flooring in the workstation areas is finished with solid carpets of blue and orange colour. The pattern of carpet flooring is inspired by the logo of Demand Farm. The entrance lobby flooring compliments the carpet design along with the false ceiling groove patterns. The form of the logo has been deconstructed to create hexagonal and triangular patterns repeated throughout the office.
A strip of landscape runs along the top of the work desk partition which appears to have radiated from a centrally located planter that acts as a focal point of the office. The central planter is illuminated by a diffused ceiling light which acts as the pivot around which the office is planned. It also serves the functional purpose of creating a visual barrier between the public and private spaces of the office. Intermittent placement of planters throughout the office creates multiple green pockets enabling a stress-free work environment while connecting the indoors to the outdoors.
The office has a muted colour scheme with a predominant use of white and grey. The bright colours of the logo along with the green colour of the landscape add the necessary hints of vibrance to the monochromatic colour palette. An interesting use of lights further accentuates the office design. Work stations are illuminated with linear ceiling lights following the design pattern of the workstations below. Ambient lights are placed on the partition to brighten the writing boards and soft boards. Hexagonal pendant lights adorn the office by breaking the monotony of linear lighting.
In today’s speedingly evolving world, the design of Demand Farm’s office reflects stability, comfort, and warmth. It represents the work ethic, culture, and values of the company which enables the employees and visitors to connect with the larger purpose of the brand.
